People can apply to come to the UK as investors if they have more than £1 million to bring to the UK and are prepared to invest £750,000 of this in specific, approved UK investments for a specific time. Alternatively they can utilise worldwide assets in excess of £2 million to arrange the finance with a qualifying financial institution. People who are interested in investing smaller sums of money can apply to come to the UK as business people. (see Setting up business in the UK)

Investors must intend to make the UK their main home. Successful investor applicants can bring their partner and children under 18. 

The investor category is complex as there are very specific rules about calculating the money being invested, including borrowed money, and about where it can be invested and for how long. Putting money in an ordinary bank account is not treated as an investment. Investment in property is also restricted.
